Overview / Responsibilities

Wood’s Portland, Oregon Industrial Hygiene Consulting practice is seeking a senior level consultant to provide industrial hygiene and safety solutions to meet our existing clients’ needs. The Sr. Consultant is directly responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with various sized clients in industry and government. This individual will provide comprehensive industrial hygiene consulting services to clients throughout the Pacific Northwest, as part of our dynamic IH Team located in Portland and Puget Sound area offices. The ideal candidate would have an extensive knowledge of industrial hygiene subject matter, understating of client industries and manufacturing environments. This role reports to the industrial hygiene group leader and Portland Office Manager.


Essential Functions

  • Client Service:
    • Responsible for proposing, budgeting, managing and performing industrial hygiene services to a vast array of Wood clients in the Pacific Northwest
    • Successfully maintain industrial hygiene engagements with large corporations
    • Develop client specific service plans and scopes of work
    • Perform industrial hygiene services including air monitoring, site assessments, noise measurements and other evaluations
    • Senior level industrial hygiene professional responsible for leading both small and complex projects requiring innovative investigation techniques
    • Prepare and supervise the analysis and formation of recommendations in written reports
    • Provide technical direction, mentoring and guidance to less experienced professional staff
    • Promote continuous quality monitoring and improvement on projects. Monitor quality standards and practices
    • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing occupational safety and health including OSHA, OR-OSHA, WISHA
    • Demonstrate considerable knowledge of non-regulatory guidelines governing occupational safety and health, environmental hazards, and legal liabilities. Ability to transfer the knowledge into effective application for specific work-sites
    • Serve as a Senior Project Reviewer
  • Business Development:
    • Assist Wood business development personnel with communicating to clients and prospects the value of engaging Wood’s industrial hygiene services.
    • Assist with the internal and external networking and marketing of the industrial hygiene practice.


  • Effectively deliver complex written and oral communications, such as proposals, technical concepts and ergonomics presentations
  • Comfortable with presentations to various types of audiences,
  • Creates templates or other written materials to be utilized by other consulting colleagues
  • Participates in a team environment while providing feedback and idea sharing
  • Involved in external associations to contribute skills and enhance technical abilities
  • Openly shares information and own expertise to accomplish goals and expand the skills of others
  • Excellent Communication skills required (Oral and Written)

Skills / Qualifications

Education and Skills Required

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or ability to obtain certification within one year required
  • Certified Safety Professionals are also encouraged to apply
  • Competency with Microsoft: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, government, consulting or risk management
  • Minimum BS or BA degree in a scientific or engineering discipline
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment such as, hard hats, ear plugs, safety glasses, respirators, steel-toed boots, fall protection harnesses
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb ladders and stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be willing to perform field work which requires extended hours at client sites
  • About 20% of travel is required
