Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Project Director – Solar Field Construction with expertise in EPC, Renewables/Solar Construction Projects. This candidate will provide direction and oversight to active projects that include review of budgeting, contract negotiations, sub-contractors, suppliers and change orders. This position will be officed based either in Tucker, GA (our corporate office) or remote location with heavy travel (2-3 weeks per month) to project sites throughout the US


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership Accountabilities: Identify, deploy, and manage a high-performing team needed to accomplish business objectives
  • Promote a positive and engaging work environment, align individual and team objectives to department and company objectives
  • Manage, support and direct project managers' development and growth, provide regular, direct feedback on performance and goal progress
  • Ensure projects are safely constructed, to high quality standard and resourced correctly to complete on time and budget
  • Ensure projects meet safety requirements for budgeting
  • Review internal and external weekly and monthly project reports which have been generated by Project Managers and site teams (1-3 active projects at any given time)
  • Review budgets, schedules and cost to complete projections
  • Develop relationships with sub-contractors, utilities and clients
  • Prepare and submit requests for proposals, in addition to direction and oversight of the preconstruction teams
  • Oversee the responses to Requests for Proposals and support the bid process to successfully negotiate new projects
  • Generate internal reports and conferences for updates relating to project and personnel
  • Work with business development to create leads and develop relationships with prospective clients
  • Understand and review Safety Management Systems, Quality Management Systems and Environment Management Systems
  • Follow Wood safety and security procedures and determine appropriate action

Skills / Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (equivalent is 10-15 years of relevant project management experience), preferably in a construction or engineering related field.
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience on solar construction projects as a Project Manager or Project Director, responsible for self perform projects 
  • Must have a valid current driver license, eligible for corporate vehicle insurance coverage.
  • Authorization to lawfully work in the United States without sponsorship from Wood is required

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively Internally with executive managers, Directors, Project Managers, Estimators, Project Developers, Site Accountants, Engineering, Legal, HSQE and HR and cross-functional departmental teams
  • Communicate effectively Externally with clients, potential clients, subcontractors and suppliers
  • General construction & operations knowledge
  • Strong business acumen, and an understanding of contracts, contract reviews, budgeting, budgeting reviews, schedules, forecasts and cost projections
  • Knowledge of change order management
  • Must have solid project management experience (conception, execution to close out)
  • Generate and update internal reports relating to projects, personnel
