Open Position: Project Accounting Analyst


Role Overview:


Wood Programs, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Project Accountant in Raleigh, NC with demonstrated experience in US Federal Government engineering, construction and operations & maintenance contracting.


This position requires an experienced hands-on Project Accountant with a strong desire and motivation to build on and support the financial foundation for a growing company.


Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Finance Director and Project Accounting Manager to oversee project financial performance and support overall accounting and financial functions
  • Support Project Managers in development of their WBS, Estimates at Completion, cost and revenue tracking and project financial performance
  • Maintain routine communication with project managers and Org Managers regarding project accounting functions, including monthly and annual accounting schedules and deadlines
  • Perform monthly and year end accounting close processes for projects with attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines
  • Review monthly project financial results and analyze variances to forecasts and budgets and take appropriate action as needed
  • Perform quality control of system financial reports, create offline ad hoc management reports as required, and assist in the preparation of monthly analysis and commentary of business results
  • Analyze contract requirements and prepare monthly billings in accordance with contract terms and conditions
  • Manage subcontractor cost tracking and payment release
  • Timely and accurate preparation of selected monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Assist in the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes
  • Support the Company President and Functional Leads in financial and administrative inquiries and tasks
  • Actively liaise with the parent company Accounting, Finance, and Contracts department
  • Support inquiries and audits involving contract close-outs, DCAA/DCMA inquiries, internal audits, etc.      
  • Respond to financial and general task order inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data
  • Support the Company purchase order process
  • Limited travel may be required for training and project related support

Skills / Qualifications

Role Requirements

  • US citizenship required
  • Strong knowledge and experience in project accounting functional areas including project performance measurement and reporting, revenue recognition, billing and collection, subcontractor invoice management
  • Understanding of accounting/financial procedures – knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, ability to ensure that company minimizes audit risk
  • Working knowledge of general ledger functions including account reconciliation, journal entry preparation and financial analysis
  • Understanding of U.S. Federal Government Compliance, including FAR and CAS
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn other company and/or government software used to manage specific programs
  • Good written and spoken communication skills  

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience performing project accounting functions
  • Solid experience in US Federal Government engineering, construction and operations & maintenance contracting
  • Strong organization and automation skills, including experience with process review and workflow optimization
  • Experience with a fully integrated project management accounting system
  • Demonstrated experience to serve as knowledgeable office administration resource
