Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team based in our Chelmsford, MA office.  The Senior Civil Engineer will perform and resolve technical and complex civil engineering tasks involving various site civil design on stormwater, grading, utilities, roadway projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs analyses for complex engineering projects
  • Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications or construction methods to ensure compliance to code and design requirements and safety regulations
  • Communicate and work effectively in a team environment, and execute complex engineering activities
  • Prepare construction cost estimates including calculating quantities and determining unit costs
    • Perform constructability reviews
    • Perform construction inspections
    • Lead construction contract administration
  • Prepare written technical reports, such as, stormwater drainage reports, basis of design summary reports, technical memorandums, feasibility study summaries, design exception summaries
  • Review prepared plans and provide clear and concise markups and direction to CAD drafters
  • Provide analytical assessment of complex engineering data such as, design agreements, design calculations, preliminary specifications, and other technical data
  • Additional responsibilities will include but not limited to; client communication and management; proposal preparation; contract preparation and negotiation; coordination with regulatory agencies; and project management including project planning, budgeting, and scheduling

Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering
  • PE Certification required
  • 10+ years of experience in Civil Engineering
  • Preferred project experience in land development; roadway and utility design including streets, water, storm and sanitary sewer system design, road plan and profiles, grading, and storm drainage calculations and analysis
  • Strong aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of Army Corps of Engineers HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, WWHM2012, and/or AutoCAD Storm and Sanitary Analysis, is preferred 
  • Knowledge of fish passage requirements, culvert design, and/or stream restoration is an asset
  • Excellent computer, writing, communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office suites
  • Must be able to walk, lift and carry up-to 20 lbs., stoop, bend, twist and work in the outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely
