Overview / Responsibilities

 

Wood is currently recruiting for a Commissioning Lead with extensive experience in the oil and gas industry. 

 

The position is located within the Midwest regioin of the US.

 

The responsibilities of a Commissioning Lead will depend on the size and scope of the project. The Commissioning Lead will serve as Company/Client representative based for managing the Dry/Wet commissioning teams, and:

 

Ensure that all safety procedures are followed and safety standards are met

  • Communicate efficiently with stakeholders
  • Ensure all daily Work activities are documented
  • Required to successfully pre-commission, commission, and start-up the facility
  • Demonstrate leadership in a team-based environment
  • Act as a mentor and source of technical resources

 

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications for Commissioning Leads could be one or more of the following:

  • Recognized degree in engineering or scientific discipline; or Knowledge acquired through specialized courses in construction technology, management, and work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described below

 Commissioning Leads must:

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate leadership in a team-based environment and Stress the importance of Near Misses reporting and the project use of these reports to the team on a regular basis (lead by issuing and discussing Near Misses)

Additionally, Commissioning Leads must have knowledge in the following:

  • Commissioning practices and principles knowledge
  • Knowledge of multi-discipline commissioning operations
  • Relevant construction-related machines and tools

Human Resources and Personnel Knowledge

  • Maximizing the use of personnel and resources on a project
  • Supervising functions relating to field activities
  • Use of contractors and contractor responsibilities contained in contract documents

Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge

  • Government compliance standards
  • Local labour laws and unionized labours

Schedule

  • Manage the overall schedule for development and implementation of commissioning within the assigned project and Review schedule to ensure that sufficient resources are allotted to each team to complete their activities in accordance with the current schedule
  • Assign tasks to commissioning resources in a clear and organized fashion (with well-defined scope and expectations, eliminating duplication of effort and activities in required sequence)
  • Ensure that the commissioning teams under his/her responsibility are deployed correctly to minimize travel, excessive overtime, and to meet the project’s commissioning schedule
  • Notify Project Manager of items that could impact schedule and implement corrective action, as required 

Commissioning Practices 

  • Responsible to execute all phases of the management commissioning process
  • Attend project and construction meetings and assign completion dates to all open items to ensure no impact to commissioning testing and progress and Responsible for the implementation of project policies, procedures, and instructions at all sites
  • Ensures the commissioning team leads have information as to current revisions of drawings, specifications, design documents, as required to perform dry commissioning
  • Ensures drawings and specifications are approved and Inspection and Test Plans are followed
  • Accountable for all commissioning testing under his/her area of responsibility to ensure that data sheets are being completed and filed correctly on a daily basis
  • Ensures the commissioning team adheres to Company established commission guidelines, protocol, and documentation package requirements
  • Interface and communicate with Project Team and Construction Management expectations for mechanical completion regarding documentation requirements, punch list items, and timely completion of construction works
  • Execution of the commissioning turnover processes and interface with the integration team within the business unit
  • Conduct/participate in a range of on-site meetings
  • Ensure all of the commissioning testing activities are documented and understood by all team members

 Documents 

  • Ensures the most current design document is used to complete the Work and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation
  • Review and ensure that daily reports from each team are submitted on time and the correct information is included
  • Verifies through  reports  from  the  commissioning  discipline  lead(s)  that  reporting  is  done correctly.
